Surface Forms

scraper singular
scrapers plural

Morphology

scraper = scrape (semi-transparent) = scrape + er

Morphologically transparent as 'scrape' + '-er', but the computing sense is a metaphorical extension (software that 'scrapes' data) which requires domain knowledge.

Etymology

Scraper also applies to a computer program and keeps the same idea: scrape means 'to remove by rubbing', so a web scraper 'takes' information off a page in the same way a hand tool takes paint off a window.
