Psychiatry starts with the Greek root psyche, meaning 'mind' or 'soul', and ends with -iatry, from a Greek word for 'doctor' or 'healer'. So psychiatry is literally 'mind-doctoring', which is why it means the medical care and treatment of mental disorders.
