Formed regularly from 'possess' + '-ible', but this sense depends on the less frequent verb sense 'to be possessed (by a spirit)', which B1 learners may not know.

Etymology

Possessible comes from the same root as possess and possession, from the old Latin possidēre meaning 'to have' or 'to hold', and that image of being 'held' helps explain the ghost meaning: a person or place that is possessible can be 'taken over' or 'held' by a spirit.
