Etymology
Phencyclidine is a chemical name built from parts: phenyl (a flat 'ring' of atoms), cyclo which hints at a 'ring' or circle, and piperidine (a chemical ring whose name comes from 'pepper'). So, phencyclidine is basically the lab name for PCP, the drug once used as an animal anesthetic and sometimes taken illegally because it can cause strong hallucinations.
