Etymology
Phaeton comes from the Greek name Phaethon, whose name means 'shining' and who, in myth, drove the sun's open chariot. That picture of a fast, open vehicle became the name for early four-seat cars with a folding top, so a phaeton is an old-style open automobile you can ride with the top down.
