Etymology
Parquetry comes from the French word parquet, a small form of parc which means 'enclosed space' or 'park', and is related to the English word park. Think of many tiny wooden panels placed together like little rooms or a small park on the floor, which is why parquetry means a floor made of many small pieces of wood in decorative patterns.
