Etymology
The word paneled comes from panel, which originally meant a small 'cloth' or 'piece', from the old word pannus. Over time panel came to mean any flat 'piece' of material like wood or glass, so something paneled is covered or decorated with these flat pieces, for example wooden panels on walls.
