Morphology

ornithology = ornith + ology

The term is structurally clear as a bird-related element plus '-ology' 'study of', but the classical combining form is not a common standalone English base for many learners.

Etymology

The word ornithology comes from the Greek parts ornitho- 'bird' and -logy 'study'. So, ornithology is the study of birds, just like biology studies life and geology studies rocks.
