Obsessively comes from the Latin verb obsidere and the shorter form obsess, which mean 'to sit against' or 'to besiege'. So imagine a thought that 'sits' on you and will not leave, and that is why doing something obsessively means you keep repeating it or cannot stop thinking about it.
