Morphology
nitroprusside = prusside (opaque) = nitro + prusside
The term is a technical chemical formation (nitro- + prusside) whose meaning is specialized and not inferable to a B1 learner from the parts.
Etymology
Nitroprusside comes from the parts nitro- (showing a nitrogen or 'nitric' part) and prusside (from 'Prussian blue', an old deep-blue dye that has iron and cyanide). So the name tells you it is a chemical with those parts, which helps explain why nitroprusside works fast as a drug to lower blood pressure.
