The word is clearly built on 'technology', but the prefix 'nano-' is a specialized scientific size marker that many learners may only partly understand.
Etymology
The word nanotechnology comes from the prefix nano- meaning 'very small', the same nano- you see in nanometer, and from technology meaning 'tools and skill'. So, nanotechnology literally means using tools and skill to make and control things on a very small scale, like atoms and tiny parts, which is why it refers to designing and building at the smallest sizes.
