The word is compositionally built from 'multi-' plus 'band', but the frequency/wavelength sense of 'band' is a specialized extension that may not be fully obvious to learners.

Etymology

Multiband joins multi- ('many') and band (a 'range' of radio frequencies or like a music band on a stage), which gives a simple picture to remember. So a multiband device can work on 'many' different frequency bands and pick up signals from different places.
