Etymology
Monomaniacal comes from Greek parts mono- meaning 'one' and mania meaning 'madness' or 'obsession', and you can see these parts in monologue, which has 'one' speaker, and in maniac, a person with extreme passion. So, someone who is monomaniacal is 'obsessed with a single subject'.
