Etymology
Menu comes from the French word menu which meant 'small' or 'detailed', and goes back to Latin minutus meaning 'made small', the same root behind the English word minute. A menu is therefore a 'small, detailed' list of the food and drink available, which is why restaurants call their list a menu.
