Morphology
Etymology
The word lanterned comes from lantern, originally a small 'light in a case' and later the name for a small 'tower or window that lets light in' on a building. So when something is lanterned it has that lantern-like part or light, which is why a lanterned dome or tower looks like a glowing little house for light.
