Etymology

Kelvin is named after the scientist Lord Kelvin, William Thomson, who took his title from the River Kelvin in Scotland. A helpful way to remember is to picture the river and the man who studied heat. It is the SI unit for temperature, so kelvin is the measure scientists use for temperature and zero kelvin means 'absolute zero'.
