Etymology
The word jujutsu comes from the Japanese parts jū meaning 'gentle' or 'soft' and jutsu meaning 'art' or 'technique'. So jujutsu is a 'gentle art' of self-defense that uses an opponent's own force with throws and holds rather than strong strikes or weapons.
