Intertropical combines inter- meaning 'between' and tropic from a Greek word meaning 'turn', because the sun appears to 'turn' at the two lines called the 'tropics'. So intertropical means 'between the tropics', the warm region of Earth between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.
