Morphology
The phrase 'in due season' is directly compositional: 'due' (appropriate/expected) modifies 'season' (a time period), so the whole phrase means 'at the appropriate time' and this is readily inferable from the parts. The pattern is common cross-linguistically (cf. 'in due time', Spanish 'en su debido tiempo'), so a B1 learner who knows the constituent words would understand the meaning.
Etymology
The phrase in due season may come from farming: farmers waited for the right season when crops were due to be picked. So, it now means 'when the time is right'.
