hamartoma = hamart + oma
A technical medical formation from a combining form ('hamart-') and the medical suffix '-oma' that is not familiar or transparently meaningful to an average B1 learner.
Etymology
Hamartoma comes from an old Greek root: hamart- meaning 'error' or 'fault' and -oma meaning 'tumor', the same ending you see in melanoma. So a hamartoma is a growth that comes from a 'developmental mistake' rather than true cancer.
