Etymology
The word guanidine comes from the chemical name guanine, which in turn was named after guano ('bird droppings') because early chemists first found related nitrogen-rich substances in guano. That's why guanidine is a very nitrogen-rich, strong organic base often used in chemistry and biochemistry.
