Etymology
Gook as an offensive slur has an unclear history; soldiers used it in wars in Asia and some people say it may come from the Korean word guk 'country' or from other local words. A helpful way to remember is that it became a harsh name for Asian people during wartime, which is why gook is very insulting and should never be used.
