Etymology
The word gnosis comes from an ancient Greek root gno- meaning 'to know', the same idea behind the English word 'know'. Early religious groups called Gnostics used the word for deep, inner, spiritual 'knowledge', so today gnosis often means an intuitive or mystical understanding.
