Etymology
Ganache comes from French and first meant 'jowl' (the lower part of the cheek) and later was used as an insult meaning 'fool'. One popular kitchen story says a cook called a clumsy helper 'ganache' after he mixed chocolate and cream by mistake, and the name stuck, so ganache now means the smooth chocolate-and-cream mixture used to fill or cover desserts.
