Fuddy-duddy is a playful double name probably made from old nicknames fuddy and duddy, and duddy once meant 'ragged' or 'old' in Scots. A helpful way to remember fuddy-duddy is to picture someone holding on to old clothes and old rules — in other words 'old-fashioned' and 'fussy'.
