Fibrinolytic comes from fibrin ('a protein that helps form blood clots', like the word 'fiber') and -lytic ('to break' or 'destroy', like the 'lysis' in 'analysis'). So, as an adjective, fibrinolytic describes something that helps break down the fibrin in a clot, which is why it is used to talk about treatments that dissolve dangerous blood clots.
