Etymology
Ferroelectric comes from ferro- meaning 'iron' and electric meaning 'electricity'. Scientists used ferro- because these materials keep an electric direction the way iron magnets keep a magnetic one, so a ferroelectric material can keep its electric direction even when an outside field is removed.
