The form contains the Greek combining form 'eos' (not a standalone English word) plus the chemical suffix '-in'; an average B1 learner cannot derive 'red fluorescent dye' from these components.
Etymology
The word eosin comes from the Greek name Eos meaning 'dawn' and the ending -in, because the dye gives a pink or red colour like the sky at dawn. So, eosin is the name for a pink/red stain used in biology and sometimes in cosmetics.
