Etymology
The word electrometer comes from the parts electro- and -meter. The electro- part goes back to a Greek word for 'amber', because early people saw that rubbing amber made things attract, and -meter means 'measure', as in thermometer. So an electrometer is a tool that 'measures' electric 'charge' or 'voltage' very carefully, often without taking any current from what it tests.
