Etymology
The word diarrheal comes from diarrhea, which itself comes from old Greek parts dia- meaning 'through' and -rrhea meaning 'flow'. So diarrheal describes illnesses where the stomach or bowels have a strong watery 'flow', which is why it means 'relating to diarrhea'.
