The adjective is transparently formed with the suffix -al, but the base word 'cubit' is rare and the anatomical meaning is not obvious to most learners.

Etymology

Cubital comes from the Latin word cubitus meaning 'elbow' and is the same root as the English word cubit, the old measure from the elbow to the fingertip. So cubital simply means 'relating to the elbow' or the nearby part of the forearm.
