Etymology
Cornhusking comes from three simple parts: corn ('grain' or 'maize'), husk ('outer skin' of an ear of corn), and -ing ('the action'). Think of people 'peeling' the husks off ears of corn, and because neighbours often did this together a cornhusking is both the work of removing husks and the friendly community event where people gather to help each other.
