The word is regularly formed from conference + -ing, but the specialized technology-mediated sense is only partly predictable from the base form.
Etymology
Conferencing comes from an old idea of 'bringing together': the parts con- mean 'together' and ferre means 'to bring'. So conferencing is the act of bringing people together for a meeting, now often by audio or video to connect them in different places.
