Morphology

cityscape = city + scape (semi-transparent) = city + scape

The components 'city' + '-scape' give the idea of a 'view of a city', but '-scape' is a bound morpheme that may be unfamiliar to some learners.

Etymology

Cityscape comes from city and the ending -scape, just like in landscape. The -scape part originally means a 'view', so a cityscape is a 'view' or picture of a city.
