Formally derived by adding the regular adjectival/past participle suffix '-ed' to 'chuff', but 'chuff' is regional/colloquial and the colloquial sense 'very pleased' is not productively predictable for average learners.
Etymology
The word chuffed may come from an old British word chuff meaning 'puffed' or 'proud', like the simple word puff, because someone who is 'puffed up' shows pleasure or pride. So, to be chuffed is to be 'very pleased' about something.
