Etymology
Candlestick in finance gets its name from the shape: each bar looks like a small candle with a thick 'body' and thin lines called 'wicks', so traders call each bar a candlestick. Each candlestick shows the period 'open', 'high', 'low' and 'close' prices, which is why the name fits the chart picture.
