Etymology
Boundary condition comes from the idea of giving a rule, the condition, at the edge of a space. Imagine a metal rod where you set the temperature at each end: the rule at the boundary, the 'edge', tells you how heat moves inside, so a boundary condition is the information you give at the border to work out what happens inside.
