Morphology
The term is a compositional chemical name: combining 'boron' with 'nitride' denotes the nitride (nitrogen compound) of boron, i.e. a compound of boron and nitrogen. Chemical nomenclature like this is morphologically regular and cross-linguistically similar, so a learner who knows both constituents can readily infer the meaning.
Etymology
Boron nitride is named for the two elements that make it: boron and nitrogen. Their atoms form flat, honeycomb-like sheets, which makes the material slippery and able to be made into tiny tubes, so it is used in 'industry' and 'nanotechnology'.
