Morphology

bimonthly = monthly (semi-transparent) = bi + month + ly

Formed by prefixing 'bi-' to 'monthly', but 'bi-' is ambiguous between 'twice in' and 'every two', so learners may misinterpret the intended frequency.

Etymology

Bimonthly combines bi-, as in bicycle, meaning 'two', and monthly meaning 'month'. One common meaning is 'twice a month', for example meetings on the 1st and 15th.
