Etymology
Atrial comes from the Latin word atrium, which meant a Roman house's 'entrance hall' or 'central room'. Doctors used the same image for the heart because an atrium is like the first room where blood arrives, so atrial means 'relating to an atrium', one of the heart's upper chambers.
