Morphology
arteriography = artery (semi-transparent) = arteri + graphy
The word is built from the medical combining form for 'artery' plus '-graphy' ('recording/imaging'), but the specialized technical meaning is only partly transparent to a general learner.
Etymology
The word arteriography comes from two parts: arterio- meaning 'artery' and -graphy meaning 'writing' or 'recording', the same ending in photography. So arteriography is like 'recording the arteries', which is why today it means making X-ray pictures of the body's arteries.
