Etymology
Arsenal comes from an old Arabic phrase dār al-ṣināʿa meaning 'house of making' or 'workshop'. It passed into Italian as arzenale for big ship workshops, and that's why arsenal now means a place where weapons and military equipment are made, stored, or looked after.
