Morphology

armamentarium = armament (opaque) = armament + arium

Although formed from 'armament' + the Latinate suffix '-arium', the modern sense ('a body of techniques or equipment', esp. medical) has shifted away from the military sense and is not readily inferable by an average learner.

Etymology

Armamentarium comes from the Latin root arma, which means 'weapons', and is like the English armory or 'arsenal' where tools are kept. Over time that idea of a store of tools moved into medicine, so armamentarium now means the full 'toolkit' of equipment and techniques a doctor or scientist can use.
