Etymology
Anopheline comes from the mosquito name Anopheles, made of Greek parts an- 'not' and ophelos 'help', so the name meant 'not helpful' or 'harmful'. The ending -ine means 'related to', as in canine, so anopheline describes things that belong to Anopheles mosquitoes, the kind that can carry malaria.
