Allegoric comes from the idea of 'speaking otherwise' and is closely related to allegory. It comes from parts allo- meaning 'other' and -goria meaning 'to speak', so an allegoric story says one thing on the surface but really means something else, which is why the word means 'symbolic' or 'metaphorical'.
