Utopia comes from Greek ou- 'not' and topos 'place', so it literally means 'no place'. Because it also sounds like Greek eu- 'good', a helpful way to remember Utopia is as a 'good place' that is only imagined, which is why we use it for a perfect but unrealistic place.
