Etymology
Sion is the older form of Zion and comes from the Hebrew Ṣiyyôn, meaning 'hill' or 'fortress'. It was the hill in Jerusalem taken by King David and later the site of the Temple, so Sion can mean the city of Jerusalem or that sacred hill itself.
