Etymology
Scholastic comes from the old Greek word scholē meaning 'leisure' and later 'school', and you can see the same root in school and scholar. So a Scholastic was someone from the 'school', a learned teacher or thinker in the Middle Ages, which is why the word now means a medieval philosopher or theologian.
