Etymology

Ruanda is an older European spelling of Rwanda, based on the country's own name in the Kinyarwanda language. A helpful way to remember Ruanda is to picture an old map where writers used a 'u' instead of a 'w', so Ruanda refers to the same country now usually called Rwanda.
