Etymology

Prilosec is a brand name for the drug omeprazole and was formed from the older brand Losec. A helpful way to remember it is to see Pri- like 'prevent' and -losec like 'lose', meaning 'get rid of', so Prilosec is a medicine that helps the stomach 'lose' extra acid.
